The basic calculation uses device power, ASIC count, operating hours and the kWh rate. A management decision requires more: separate electricity from additional services and compare cost with the fleet’s actual operating profile.
Basic formula
Energy consumption equals the power of one ASIC in kilowatts multiplied by device count and operating hours. Multiply kWh by the applicable tariff. If the fleet is not available for the full period, apply the actual availability factor and clarify idle power separately.
What the rate may include
Depending on the contract, the rate may include power, cooling, monitoring, security and basic remote hands. Diagnostics, repair, parts, logistics, insurance and non-standard work are often separate. Normalize the service scope before comparing offers.
Why nameplate power is not enough
Actual consumption varies with mode, firmware, temperature and device condition. Preliminary models use nameplate power with a reasonable margin; commercial terms should be confirmed after checking the model and configuration.
Connect cost to the financial model
Hosting cost should be assessed with BTC price, network difficulty, pool fees, repairs, taxes and fleet renewal. A public calculator is an estimate; an investment decision needs dated assumptions and sensitivity analysis.
